Healing Each Other

We are people who need connection in order to live well. The Talmud teaches, "Ain chavush matir atzmo mi-beit ha-asurim": a captive cannot release himself from prison.

That line has always stayed with me. We all need someone else to help us be healthy. We are not meant to live alone. We are made responsible for each other, and we are created to interact.

When someone is unwell, even a healer seeks out a colleague. "Physician, heal thyself" may be a phrase, but in real life people need people. A quiet hand, a calm room, and the presence of another person can make care feel possible.
